About the Team & the Position
The ‘Portfolio Delivery’ department manages programs and projects to deliver aligned strategic priorities and digital capabilities across AEMO. The Delivery Services team provide PMO operational support and services to programs and projects within Portfolio Delivery.
The PMO Manager – Portfolio is a key role within the centralised Project Management Office (PMO) practice, responsible for overseeing and managing the PMO activities and projects within a portfolio. This position involves establishing and maintaining project management standards, practices, and governance across the portfolio to ensure successful project delivery and alignment with organizational objectives. The PMO Manager will work closely with project managers, stakeholders, and senior management to drive consistency, efficiency, and excellence in project execution.
Position Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain the PMO function within the portfolio, including defining its structure, roles, and responsibilities.
- Develop and implement project management standards, practices, and governance frameworks to ensure consistency & efficiency in project delivery across the portfolio.
- Collaborate with portfolio stakeholders, project managers, and senior management to define project objectives, scope, and deliverables, ensuring alignment with the portfolio strategy and goals.
- Monitor and evaluate project performance within the portfolio, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as required.
- Provide guidance, support, and training to project managers and teams within the portfolio on project management best practices, tools, and methodologies.
- Develop and maintain project management documentation, templates, and tools specific to the portfolio, ensuring consistency and standardization.
- Track and manage project budgets, resources, and timelines within the portfolio, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
- Conduct regular portfolio reviews and audits to assess project health, identify risks, and recommend mitigation strategies. Prepare and present portfolio status reports and updates to senior management, highlighting key milestones, risks, and issues.
- Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices in project management, incorporating them into the portfolio PMO’s processes and methodologies.
Position Requirements
Skills & Experience:
Proven experience as a PMO Manager or in a similar role, specifically within a centralized PMO practice responsible for a portfolio.
- Strong knowledge of project management methodologies, tools, and techniques.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to drive data-driven decision-making.
- Proficiency in project management software and tools.
- Experience in driving process improvement initiatives and implementing best practices.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects within a portfolio concurrently.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality results.
Education/ professional Certifications:
- Tertiary qualification in an appropriate discipline (Business, Information Technology, or Engineering) preferred but not a requirement.
- Project Management qualification such as Prince2, PMI – preferred but not requirement.
