When you choose AusNet, you’ll join genuine people working together, making Real. Progress

At AusNet, we’re the link between renewable energy sources and local communities, playing a key role in the clean energy transition and providing essential energy to every Victorian family.

Help us lead the way, while enriching your career with real people who encourage you to bring your best and make real impact – for your career, our communities, and Australia’s cleaner energy future.

Purposeful work with genuinely good people. That’s refreshing.

Play a key role in a team that provides oversight and technical leadership in the areas of both Engineering and Asset Management practice across Ausnet. You will support the Group Operations team in providing outstanding strategic level technical and operational capabilities, procurement and supply chain delivery whilst ensuring cross business coordination and collaboration.

In this role as a Principal Engineer (Secondary), you will focus on enhancing and developing technical expertise in the field of Engineering while promoting a culture of continuous improvement, experimentation and learning from failures.

With a hybrid split (Office/WFH), this role is based in Southbank, Melbourne and is part of the Group Engineering & Asset Management department, reporting into the Group Manager, Engineering & Asset Management.

This role will deliver real outcomes, including but not limited to:

  • Coach and mentor other engineering personnel across lines of business, sharing knowledge and experience to achieve team objectives.
  • Provide direction to engineering activities and requirements of the AusNet graduate program.
  • Develop a ‘T-shaped’ engineering workforce with a broad range of knowledge and deep expertise.
  • Align engineering activities with corporate goals and mission, promoting teamwork and serving as invaluable resources across all AusNet networks.
  • Lead investigations of critical asset failures and network failures, as required.
  • Enforce technical compliance across all operations.
  • Provide input to, and work with others to perform:
    • Condition and risk assessment of installed equipment
    • Critical spares holdings
    • Technical specifications
    • Technical Standards
  • Provide technical leadership and support on critical projects, as required.

You don’t need to check every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering.
  • Extensive background / experience required in a similar role (20 years)
  • Deep subject expertise in at least one area of electrical or structural engineering as applied to electricity networks, including:
    • Design principles
    • Interpreting test result and/or advising what tests should be performed
    • Ability to determine the condition of plant and equipment
    • Identify and quantify risks
    • Understand required maintenance
  • Extensive knowledge of Australian and International technical standards
  • Sound working knowledge of Regulatory and Legislative requirements.
  • Ability to form trusting relationships with others in the graduate and engineering cohorts.
  • Capability to perform technical investigations and develop relevant and impactful corrective actions.
  • Strong ability to suggest solutions to technical problems and develop technical advice and solutions that provide safe outcomes.
  • Balance technical considerations with financial and other constraints without sacrificing compliance requirements.

A real place to belong.

We celebrate unique voices, refreshing perspectives and diversity in our team. Engage and connect through our social club, family day, wide range of events or by joining one of our Employee Network Groups.

We believe in more than just competitive pay. Here’s what sets us apart:

  • Flexibility: whether this is hybrid work, flexible hours, or part time arrangements, we’ll work with you to help balance work and life.
  • Leave: more than typical personal leave and a generous 14 weeks of paid parental leave, with no minimum service.
  • Community giving: a paid day to volunteer with our social impact partner, Foodbank, or for a cause that matters to you.
  • Perks: we offer all the other perks you’ve come to expect like purchased leave, income protection insurance, novated leasing, corporate discounts, private health cover discounts and more.

As an industry in transformation, we’re excited by the possibilities ahead.

So, if you’re passionate about our purpose and committed to making real progress, bring your energy and join AusNet. Together, we can shape a new way forward.
