Description

This Principal Enterprise Engineer role will drive our technology strategy, enhance developer experience, and promote best practices across multiple divisions. If successful, you will have a unique opportunity to shape the future of our engineering culture, focusing on mergers and acquisitions due diligence (M&A DD), toolchain optimisation, maturing our critical DevSecOps practices, and serving as an engineering evangelist.
Additionally, you will be instrumental in talent acquisition efforts and enhancing our external engineering profile.


Key Responsibilities


M&A Due Diligence:
  • Lead technical due diligence for potential acquisitions, providing critical insights into the technology stack, architecture, scalability and any potential technical risks
  • Develop integration strategies to seamlessly merge acquired technologies and teams into the existing ecosystem and support immediate remediation of critical software engineering risks.

Developer Experience & Toolchain Optimisation
  • Identify and implement best-in-class Development tools, frameworks, and practices
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of a robust toolchain that enhances productivity and streamlines the SDLC.
  • Partner with development teams to continuously refine and improve coding standards, code review processes, and CI/CD pipelines.

Engineering Practices and DevSecOps:
  • Implement standardised engineering practice, and advocate for best practices across all divisions, focusing on secure, scalable, and high-quality software delivery.
  • Cross collaborate with other teams to promote DevSecOps principles, ensuring security is integrated into every stage of the development process.

Engineering Evangelism and Community Leadership:
  • Act as an engineering evangelist within the organisation, leading guilds focused on frontend, backend, API, testing, automation, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement
  • Mentor and guide engineers at all levels

Solution Design:
  • Design and develop cloud-first solutions within a multi-cloud environment (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Collaborate across the business to create scalable, secure, and resilient cloud-native solutions.
  • Drive optimisation and cost-efficiency in multi-cloud deployments
  • Lead initiatives to improve cloud platform capabilities, ensuring the teams have required tools

Other:
  • Participate in industry events, build and maintain relevant networks / communities for the purpose of knowledge sharing, continuous learning as well as recruitment


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Extensive experience in software engineering, with a strong focus on full-stack development, DevSecOps, and engineering leadership.
  • Proven experience in M&A due diligence, with a solid understanding of evaluating technical assets and risks.
  • Strong knowledge of modern developer tools and toolchains, including CI/CD, version control, and automated testing frameworks.
  • Extensive experience in promoting and implementing DevSecOps practices within a complex, fast-paced, cloud-first environment.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with a track record of mentoring engineers
  • Passionate about technology and innovation, with the ability to inspire and influence others
  • Experience of supporting the recruitment of top engineering talent
  • A degree in Comp Science, Engineering or related fields may be advantageous.
