The Language Doctors
is seeking an experienced Principal Software Engineer – Technical Lead to oversee and mentor our engineering team, ensuring the development and delivery of high-quality software solutions. This role blends leadership with hands-on technical expertise, with a strong emphasis on C#, .NET, and SQL. The ideal candidate has a solid background in software development, technical leadership, team management, and application architecture, and a deep understanding of security protocols and compliance standards, including HIPAA.


Key Responsibilities
:


Leadership & Management

  • Lead the engineering team, ensuring timely project delivery with an emphasis on quality.
  • Oversee all phases of software development: design, testing, and maintenance.
  • Mentor engineers in best practices and provide constructive feedback through code reviews.
  • Ensure transparent communication within the team and across departments.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance team efficiency.
  • Proficiency in Agile frameworks, particularly Scrum, is highly desirable.
  • Report project and task statuses to management on time.
  • Lead sprints and resolve impediments or technical challenges during Scrum meetings


Technical Expertise

  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in codebases, with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Perform hands-on development tasks using .NET, C#, SQL, and JavaScript. Knowledge of Angular is a plus.
  • Modernize and optimize current application architecture and performance.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and other security protocols.


Collaboration & Coordination

  • Foster healthy relationships within the engineering and interdepartmental teams, particularly with IT and compliance.
  • Collaborate with product teams and users to translate requirements into actionable technical plans.
  • Ensure clear and effective communication between engineering and other departments.


Required Experience & Skills:


Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.


Professional Experience

  • 10+ years of overall experience, with at least 4 years in technical leadership.
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in .NET Core, .NET Framework, C#, SQL, Web Services, REST APIs, and data structures. Angular knowledge is a plus.
  • 2+ years of experience with security protocols and compliance standards such as HIPAA, NIST, or GDPR.
  • Strong expertise in source code management using tools like Git.
  • Experience managing multiple development, testing, and production environments and handling code branches.
  • In-depth understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices, with experience in tools like AWS CodeCommit.


Technical & Soft Skills

  • Expertise in software engineering principles, methodologies, and tools.
  • Strong knowledge of database architectures, with the ability to write and optimize complex SQL queries and stored procedures.
  • Experience modernizing legacy applications, including transitioning to microservices.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure. Experience with AWS services is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Agile methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban.
  • Strong conflict-resolution and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Proven leadership and team motivation skills in a remote, multicultural environment.


Schedule

  • Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM EST.
