Product lead – Embedded Software – Autonomous Systems – Defence

The Company: 

An innovative start up to scale up company leading the way in the provision of autonomous optical search systems in the Search, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance space for Defence specialising in the design, fabrication, manufacture and distribution of these innovative systems. 

About the role: 

As a Product Lead you will be responsible for the full lifecycle and delivery of the product working closely with the CTO to define the product roadmap and collaborating with the customer to create an exceptional product and deliver outstanding customer experience. You will lead a team of software and AI engineers. 

Responsibilities:

• Lead the design and implementation of the Product
• Make architectural decisions to get to a minimum viable product within the next 12 months ensuring software reliability
• Oversee the technical software engineering team
• Liaise and interface between the customer, technical teams and internal leadership
• Work closely with software engineers to test their assumptions and drive excellence
• Define schedule and resource needs to drive specific delivery requirements
• Communicate the product vision, roadmap and objective
• Control and update the Bill of Materials

Ideal Candidate

• At least seven years of experience in embedded software programming (C, C++, Rust) on Linux 
• At least two years of experience in a technical leadership role
• Previous experience in the full product lifecycle from specification, POC, minimal viable product, testing to deployment, preferably in a start up to scale up environment.
• Exceptional stakeholder management and customer engagement experience – C suite stakeholders.
• Strong Agile project management experience – standups, sprint planning, product backlog grooming
• Experience and a passion for AI, image processing, computer vision, robotics (vision or cameras), Machine Learning, electronics, firmware, flight dynamics, remote sensing  or autonomous systems
• Experience in defence (military or munitions) or aeronautical industry is highly desirable.
• You may be PhD qualified or have strong educational qualifications in Science, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering or Physics
• You will have the ability to push back and make decisions for effective use of resources, time and budget.
• Strong design / architectural mindset
• Intellectual curiosity – get to the root of the issues, creative problem solving
• You hold NV1 clearance (or are eligible)
