The Role
The Production Manager, Graphic Designer, and Editor plays a central role in overseeing the end-to-end production of the Australian Coin Review magazine. This multifaceted position combines project management, graphic design, and editorial expertise to ensure the magazine is produced on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
In this role, you will coordinate production workflows, manage team schedules, and oversee the creation of engaging and visually appealing content. As a graphic designer, you will prepare layouts, edit images, and design advertisements. As an editor, you will review and refine contributors’ submissions for accuracy, clarity, and style consistency. This position requires strong organisational, technical, and creative skills to maintain the magazine’s professional standards and ensure its continued success.

About You
You will possess many of the following attributes:
- Industry Knowledge:
- In-depth understanding of magazine production processes, techniques, and best practices.
- Familiarity with printing specifications, layout preparation, and quality control.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop.
- Strong editing and proofreading skills, with an eye for detail.
- Management Abilities:
- Experience in coordinating and scheduling tasks for diverse teams.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to handle multiple priorities.
- Communication:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to liaise effectively with contributors, advertisers, and internal teams.
- Experience:
- Demonstrated experience in magazine production or a similar role.
- Knowledge of materials and equipment used in magazine production
Responsibilities
Operations Management
- Oversee daily operations for the magazine’s production, editing, and marketing.
- Coordinate with contributors, advertisers, printers, and distributors to meet deadlines and ensure efficient workflows.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to create advertisements and campaigns to grow the subscriber base.
- Plan and organise production schedules, balancing project and resource requirements.
- Estimate and negotiate budgets and timelines with the editor.
- Monitor and maintain quality control standards across all aspects of production.
- Supervise the team, assigning tasks, prioritising workloads, and ensuring adherence to timelines.
- Resolve scheduling conflicts and adapt timelines as needed.
Graphic Design
- Prepare magazine content using existing InDesign templates.
- Edit and refine images using Photoshop, ensuring correct size, resolution, and quality.
- Design and recreate advertisements for contributors, maintaining brand consistency.
- Conduct layout reviews with the editor and implement necessary adjustments.
- Manage and update the magazine’s website to ensure content accuracy and engagement.
Editing
- Review and edit contributor submissions for grammar, spelling, and style consistency using tools like Grammarly.
- Ensure all written content aligns with the magazine’s tone, style, and quality standards.
