Explore the Opportunity

Due to a restructure, an opportunity has become available for a Program Manager – Extension to join the Research, Innovation and Extension team. Your role will be to lead the Extension team in engaging with the Australian pork industry and other relevant stakeholders, to support industry uptake and maximise the adoption of research, innovation, policy and other best practice outcomes and initiatives.

Here’s a snapshot of your key responsibilities: – 

  • Manage the delivery of extension project activities for the Australian pork industry, within budget and scheduled timeframes. 
  • Develop systems and processes that support the coordinated and effective delivery of Australian pork industry research and innovation activities.
  • Work with APL teams, research partners and stakeholders to deliver high-quality, fit-for-purpose extension projects, plans for adoption and support resources to effectively communicate key findings of research projects, government grants and initiatives. 
  • Represent APL and/or industry interests in relevant cross-commodity committees and groups.
  • Provide feedback to APL on challenges, opportunities, and interests to enhance the research, innovation and extension program.
  • Represent APL and/or industry interests in relevant industry liaison roles, and on committees/other groups.
  • Assist in the organisation and execution of industry and other APL supported events as required.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership to direct reports, creating a positive culture that is results focused and in line with APL values. 
  • Contribute to a positive team environment.

About You

To be standout for this role, you’ll be able to tick the following boxes: 

  • A degree in Agricultural, Animal Production/Science, Environmental Science, Communications, Extension and/or equivalent experience. 
  • Demonstrated 5+ years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Capability and willingness to interact and contribute as a member of a team.
  • Highly developed facilitation, presentation and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience in the pork industry.
  • Previous experience managing a small team with demonstrated experience driving a positive culture that values accountability, transparency, timely delivery and collaboration across the organisation. 

You’ll also have:

  • A current drivers licence.
  • A willingness to work in and contribute to a tight team environment.
  • A positive can-do attitude with a hunger for learning.
  • Exceptional organisation skills and attention to detail. 
  • A flexible approach to managing the day-to-day requirements of the role.

Location and Hours

This is a full-time role and is based in one of our APL offices (Canberra or Sydney). However, we are open to the role being based remotely, if you live outside these areas.
