Project Manager (Remote)

Position Title: Senior Project Manager – Azure Modernization Initiative

Remote Position, but prefer candidate local to Des Moines, IA.

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Project Manager to lead their Azure Modernization effort, a pivotal initiative to transform and optimize their infrastructure and application ecosystem for the cloud. The ideal candidate will have extensive project management experience, coupled with a strong technical background in infrastructure and cloud technologies, particularly Azure or AWS. This role demands exceptional leadership skills, the ability to navigate complex dependencies, and a strategic approach to organizing and delivering on modernization objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the end-to-end management of the Azure Modernization project, ensuring successful planning, execution, and delivery within scope, time, and budget constraints.
• Develop and maintain detailed project plans, identifying workstreams, milestones, deliverables, and dependencies across infrastructure and application teams.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, application developers, and business stakeholders, to align project goals with organizational objectives.
• Facilitate the organization of tasks and dependencies related to cloud migration, ensuring smooth transitions of applications and infrastructure to the Azure platform.
• Monitor project progress, track key performance indicators, and proactively address risks or roadblocks to ensure timely delivery.
• Utilize JIRA to manage and track project tasks, milestones, and deliverables (preferred but not mandatory).
• Apply Agile principles where applicable, balancing Agile practices with traditional project management methodologies to suit the hybrid nature of the initiative.
• Provide regular updates to stakeholders and senior leadership, ensuring transparency and alignment on project status, risks, and deliverables.

Required Qualifications:

• Proven track record as a Senior Project Manager, with at least 8+ years of experience managing large-scale, complex projects, preferably in IT infrastructure or cloud-related initiatives.
• Strong experience with infrastructure modernization and cloud migration projects.
• In-depth knowledge of cloud platforms, with a preference for Azure; experience with AWS is acceptable.
• Familiarity with cloud application modernization from both an organizational and technical perspective.
• Demonstrated ability to organize workstreams, define dependencies, and manage cross-functional team efforts in a dynamic environment.
• Proficiency in using JIRA or similar tools for task tracking and project management (preferred).
• Hands-on experience with Agile project management practices, with the flexibility to work in hybrid environments that combine Agile and traditional methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience managing Azure-specific projects, including migration of applications, infrastructure setup, and platform optimization.
• Understanding of application dependencies and technical requirements in a cloud environment.
• Exceptional problem-solving skills, with a proactive and strategic approach to addressing challenges and risks.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively at all levels of the organization.
