Mō tō mātou rōpū | About the team

The University of Auckland launched seven Hīkina kia Tutuki University Research Centres in 2022 to focus research on the key impact areas in the University strategy Taumata Teitei: sustainability, health and well-being, just, cultured and engaged communities and ethical innovation and technology. Each centre supports research that responds directly to major societal challenges, from lack of good housing to Pacific health and well-being and ageing well.


Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

This position plays an important role supporting the University Research Centres to build their profile across a range of platforms for multiple audiences.

The role works on the planning, development and delivery of research communications strategies to enhance the reputation of the centres. The role is aligned closely with the University’s Central Communications team, but will be embedded within the University Research Centres.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Contributing to the delivery of a range of communications services with a focus on supporting the development of a communications plan and delivery of its tasks for University Research Centres
  • Liaising and work alongside URC communications staff and directors on communications frameworks and content development
  • Contributing to the delivery of a range of relevant digital engagement, including web publishing: keeping content fresh, engaging, relevant, and updated. Social media content relevant to University and faculty social media channels
  • Coordinating content, development, editing and distribution of URC reports and publications
  • Develop and maintain strong collegial relationships with relevant marketing and communications teams, University Media Productions, and other relevant central service divisions.

This is for a Fixed Term (18 months), Full time (37.5hrs per week) role.
Salary band F, range $68,600-$84,700, dependent upon skills and experience.

Applicants will have a bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication, marketing, or a relevant subject area or have demonstrated work experience in a similar role

You will be able to demonstrate experience in a range of communications and digital engagement activities. You will have experience and proficiency with the following:

  • Microsoft Office Applications: SharePoint, Teams, PowerPoint, Excel, Word
  • Digital design tools: Adobe, Photoshop
  • Writing for public audiences (Examples of writing and editing work required)
