Research Engineer (Remote)

Your role is to take an applied approach, using your research to build scalable, high-impact solutions that align with business objectives. You’ll collaborate closely with product teams and customers to refine and deliver intelligent systems that truly enhance customer experience. LLM Fundamentals: You have a broad and deep understanding of LLM fundamentals such as tokenization, encoding methods, model architectures, distributed training and inference.

Responsibilities:

• Design and build autonomous agent applications
• Train and deploy custom machine learning models
• Plan and run experiments to improve the performance of models for specific tasks
• Design and implement solutions combining different technologies and tools
• Set up model training and inference infrastructure and procedures on AWS
• Document and present research
• Propose and investigate novel technology applications in the customer experience domain
• Meet with customers and look for opportunities for application of new technologies
• Prepare datasets and direct data collection teams
• Educate others in the team on machine learning
• Support the wider engineering team in response to customer needs

Requirements:

• Expert knowledge of machine learning fundamentals
• Practical experience in fine-tuning LLMs
• Experience in deploying LLMs to production environments
• Experience developing software solutions which use ML
• Experience with optimising inference performance of LLMs for low latency
• Proficient python programmer
• Fluent in PyTorch
• Experience writing, deploying, and managing large software applications
• Experience building products with customers and taking direct feedback from them
• Experience eliciting customer problems and articulating them in writing 
• Proven experience with the scientific method including documentation

Preferred Qualifications:

• Exposure to HPC, practical experience with distributed LLM training
• Practical experience in pre-training LLMs
• Practical experience in training and/or using audio input and output to models
• Knowledge and experience in WebRTC
• TypeScript programming and full-stack web development
• Expertise in other programming languages (e.g. C, Rust, Go, etc…)
• PhD in Computer Science
• Examples of software solutions you have built end-to-end
