Description

Leidos currently has an opening for an experienced Systems Engineer/Systems Administrator capable of supporting an enterprise level system for a Department of Veterans Affairs program. This position is 100% remote and will involve an occasional rotating schedule for supporting 24x7x365 operations of a mission critical system.

JOB DESCRIPTION/SCOPE: The Systems Engineer/SysAdmin will be capable of working with a high performing sustainment, operations and maintenance team in production, test, and development environments. The candidate will support the technical team lead and will also provide user support for a Government Interagency Healthcare System. The position requires an individual that can work independently under minimal direction, communicate successfully with the client, ascertain and identify issues adversely affecting the customer experience, and provide troubleshooting and task leadership to a team that includes programmers, system administrators, system engineers, and other network engineers. This position requires the candidate to be able to immediately integrate with the team and start work with minimal oversight.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Senior Systems Engineer to support the VA Mission.
  • Lead and coordinate the design, implementation, and support of test labs encompassing multiple platforms and technologies.
  • Provide daily communications with business customer regarding system status and updates regarding user requests.
  • Assist business customers/end users with login issues when required.
  • Display great customer care when working with the business customers/end users.
  • Help define project scope, plans and deliverables.
  • Assist leadership in determining technical direction of the organization.
  • Research, analyze, recommend, and implement standard processes, tools, and techniques.
  • Coach and provide technical leadership to others on the application of existing and new project and system management methodologies.
  • Review other system designs to help ensure selection of appropriate technology, efficient use of resources, and successful integration of multiple systems and technologies.
  • Identify, develop, update, and enforce standards and procedures.
  • Monitor and ensure resolution of issues.
  • Interface with support groups on production problems, technical concerns, and financial issues
  • Research, evaluate, and stay current on applicable emerging tools, techniques, and technologies.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of prior relevant experience. Degree must be in computer science, electronics engineering or other engineering or technical discipline.
  • An additional 8 years of relevant experience may be substituted for education. Therefore, 13 or more years of relevant experience if no degree in required degree field.
  • Experience must include:
  • InterSystems HealthShare or IRIS deployment, management, administration & monitoring.
  • Installing operating system software, patches, and upgrades/patches
  • Configuring, STIG’ing, optimizing, fine-tuning, and monitoring operating system and VMs
  • Experience performing RedHat Linux administration in a VA environment.
  • Experience working with information security, privacy, and information assurance, data engineering, and legacy system evolution.
  • Experience supporting/sustaining and providing operations and maintenance in a production environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to contribute to technical documentation that is thorough and meets federal standards and guidelines.
  • Current VA credentials and up-to-date VA Tier 4 / High background investigation
  • Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with a Health Information Exchange.
    • CHCS or equivalent DoD system administration or operations.
    • Experience with RHEL7, RHEL8, and RHEL9.
    • Understanding of AWS infrastructure.
    • Providing end user support to assist identifying and resolving problems.
    • Medical industry related IT system infrastructure.
    • Understanding of network architectures.
    • Understanding of cloud computing.
    • Ability to perform in multiple roles and communicate to all levels of management.
