Hiring Overview

We are looking to expand our team with a Semantic engineer to get involved in projects involving Semantic Web technologies. In this area, our clients are primarily European Public Institutions. Some of the projects that we work on aim at establishing interinstitutional data standards, architecting data-intensive systems, developing interoperability solutions, performing data-intensive studies, and others.

What you should expect to do daily

  • Work with customers to understand requirements to prepare an ontology.
  • Design ontologies to represent various entities, attributes, and their relationships.
  • Develop logical, semantically rich, and extensible data models for Meaningfy projects.
  • Analyse conceptual structures and elaborate mappings/alignments between different data models & knowledge structures.
  • Develop transformation rules between different data formats and representations.
  • Manage data quality through data shapes and semantic unit tests.
  • Ensure that terminologies and ontologies provide adequate domain coverage and are compatible with relevant Information standards.
  • Harmonise data structures, nomenclatures, and knowledge structures.
  • Develop high-quality technical documentation about terminologies and ontologies, including detailed descriptions of the terminology content and its associated models and processes.
  • Work collaboratively with other technical teams on knowledge-engineering-focused projects.

What will you need to know to be successful in your role (must have)

  • MS or PhD in Computer Science, Information science or equivalent
  • Experience with semantic repositories (GraphDB, Virtuoso, Fuseki) and associated languages (RDF, OWL, SPARQL)
  • Mastery in writing SPARQL queries and Turtle RDF
  • Good understanding of what validation with data shapes is and SHACL or ShEx languages
  • Knowledge of Ontology Engineering Methodologies and relevant software (Topbraid Composer, Vocbench, Protege)
  • Experience in taxonomy development using SKOS and SKOS-XL
  • Experience in analysing conceptual structures and elaborate mappings/alignments between different data models/knowledge structures.
  • Some experience working and developing data structure schemas for relational databases, or documents (XML, XSD, JSON)
  • Excellent writing & verbal Technical English Level
  • Demonstrated autonomy in the past roles

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with TDD & DDD methodologies and Clean (architecture, code, coder, agile) philosophy
  • Understanding how RDF transformation languages work (e.g. RML, R2RML, SPARQL-Generate)
  • Experience programming in Python (back-end applications)
  • Experience working with XML & XSLT technologies
  • Experience working according to agile development methodology such as SCRUM
