Senior Data Engineer (Remote)

We’re looking for a talented Senior Data Engineer to join our team and collaborate with our UK-based partner. The ideal candidate is an experienced professional skilled in working with large, complex datasets and backend systems, with a proven ability to design scalable data solutions. This role will play a crucial part in addressing the challenges of managing and visualizing data from surveys with over 100,000 participants and supporting the development of a data commons vision.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines and architectures to manage large datasets efficiently.
• Develop interactive data visualization tools and dashboards to provide actionable insights to stakeholders through client and community portals.
• Identify and address performance bottlenecks in the data infrastructure, optimizing resource allocation for scalability and reliability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate data solutions seamlessly with ongoing feature development.
• Drive the implementation of a data commons vision, establishing a unified and accessible framework for managing organizational data.
• Ensure data quality, governance, and security are upheld in all data processes and pipelines.

Requirements

Technical Skills:

• Strong proficiency in backend data engineering with large datasets and distributed systems.
• Expertise in data visualization tools and frameworks (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or custom dashboards).
• Proficient in SQL and data modeling, with experience optimizing database performance.
• Advanced experience with programming languages commonly used in data engineering (Python, Scala, or Java).
• Familiarity with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, or similar frameworks.
• Cloud experience, preferably with AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Experience with ETL pipelines and tools such as Apache Airflow or similar workflow orchestration tools.

Experience and Attributes:

• 5+ years of professional experience in data engineering or a related field.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a track record of addressing complex data challenges.
• Exceptional communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with remote teams and stakeholders.
• Experience supporting the development of data strategies, including data commons or shared data frameworks, is a plus.
