This Opportunity
Black Box is seeking a Senior Estimating Manager to lead our Data Center Estimating Program. The ideal Candidate will possess comprehensive and progressive experience in developing complete, detailed and accurate, cost budgets and estimates for highly complex and large-scale Structured Cabling System construction projects and services.
What You Will Do
- Lead and administer estimating operations including staffing, work assignment, wage and performance evaluations, etc.
- Responsible for developing, implementing and ensuring the maintaining of estimating tools / applications, databases, processes and procedures.
- Prior to delivery of formal pursuit responses – conducts full reviews of all final cost estimate and response packages for accuracy and completeness.
- Provides expert input during evaluations and assists in studies related to value engineering, material selection, means and methods as required.
- Participates in presentations to internal leadership and Clients / Project interviews for new or continuing business opportunities.
- Provides technical assistance and support in negotiating contracts and change orders as may be required.
- Provides expert guidance on cost estimating strategies that improves competitive position and positively impacts opportunity win rate.
Needs For Success
- Highly experienced at understanding complex and detailed, design drawings, specifications and other documents with ability to clearly identify specific scope of work and requirements.
- Ability to estimate projects of any type, effectively delegate work assignments and provide guidance in the development budgets and estimates.
- The right person for this role is willing to be the hands-on Leader that is never above rolling up sleeves to aid the Team in developing cost budgets, estimates and other items as needed or required.
- Facilitate and encourage the professional development of your Team.
- Must be proficient in the use of a computer, Microsoft Office business applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and industry specific platforms (Bluebeam, Procore, AutoDesk, etc.).
- Must be familiar with modern estimating software and applications.
- Experience in use of CAD, Revit or other 3D modeling software or “viewers” is a plus.
- Ability to manage the time constraints and changing priorities of multiple tasks while maintaining a good attitude and ensuring on-time delivery of response packages.
- This position requires effective communication skills with ability to articulate complex information to any audience type with clarity and conciseness.
- Possess an entrepreneurial spirit with a high level of motivation. Can work as part of a Team and independently with minimal oversight.
What You Bring To The Table
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management or engineering.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in estimating, engineering and/or project delivery management for large scale highly complex Structured Cabling and/or Low Voltage Systems projects.
- Experience in developing detailed and accurate cost budgets and estimates for Data Center Structured Cabling Systems is HIGHLY preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in developing estimates and response packages for projects utilizing various contracting methods such as Lump Sum / Fixed Price, Cost+, Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP), Unit Rate, Design Build, etc.
- Preferred professional certifications:
- BICSI Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD)
- BICSI Registered Telecommunications Project Manager (RTPM)
- AASPE Certified Professional Estimator (CPE)
- A combination of related and relevant education, training and experience will be considered.
Supervisory Responsibility
This will have direct reports.
Work Location and Travel:
Remote / Hybrid with up to 20% travel
