Senior Full Stack Web Developer | Cognitant Group Limited | UK
We’re an experienced team of health and tech industry people who are developing a web platform to empower patients to take control of their health through better understanding their conditions. Working with the healthcare professionals in the NHS or pharmaceutical companies, we have become experts in developing content alongside patients that has meaningful positive impact on health outcomes and supports doctors by reducing unneeded appointments.
Your role:
Full stack web development of an online platform supporting health care professionals in providing information to patients. The platform is primarily a web platform hosting both static content, and more interactive experiences, focusing on educating the public about complex health conditions. Your role will be to help formalise the current functionality then develop and extend new capabilities into this innovative system as we look to grow to become a leader in patient health education.
Who you are:
- A full stack web developer with a very solid understanding of Typescript and JavaScript, node.js, REST, GraphQL, React, SQL, and containerisation with Docker.
- You must be comfortable taking ownership and working independently. In a small team there will be times when resourcing means that you will have to be effective with limited supervision
- You enjoy solving technical challenges using the most appropriate tools rather than trying to use the same coding “hammer” to hit anything that looks remotely like a nail.
- You are pragmatic in understanding that perfect is the enemy of good enough and that sometimes limited resources mean compromises must be taken and how to decide what those compromises must be.
- You’re familiar with Scrum-style teamwork practices and work well in cross-functional teams
- You’re can solve business problems with software independently but still play well with others. While the team is still small independent working is prioritised, as the business grows working in a team of mixed abilities will be vital.
Ideally you also:
- Value well written software and understand the importance and value of well applied software patterns and sensible testing practices. Things like Inversion of Control, 12 factor development and applying dev-ops concepts outside of the normal web technologies are interesting to you.
- Are interested in things outside of the latest JavaScript framework. Being interested in the wider development world, looking for alternate solutions from understanding new and old JavaScript libraries to different approaches in cloud-based infrastructure. While the final decision about technology strategy won’t be yours, questioning the current approach to find better ways of working will be encouraged.
- Have an eye for, and interest in, making web content more accessible and compelling, and a desire to apply that to helping people learn more about their health through technology.
Role type and location:
This is a full-time, remote role. Occasional travel to company gatherings or for internal meetings should be expected but not common. Willingness to travel to Oxford for training/on-boarding and occasional co-working would be beneficial, particularly early in the role.
Start date:
December 2024.
Benefits and pay:
Starting salary: £65k, plus bonus, company pension and EMI share options.
Reporting lines:
You will report to the Chief Technology Officer. No direct reports at present.
Applications:
Please send CV and covering letter to Daisy.Allington@cognitant.com. Interviews will take place before the end of November.
No agencies please.
