Overview
GitHub is seeking a Senior Manager, Developer Policy to join its policy team within Corporate External and Legal Affairs (CELA). GitHub’s global impact in supporting open-source software and collaboration is central to creativity, innovation, and advancing software transformation. Our policy team is focused on protecting and promoting the ability of the global, interconnected developer community to accelerate human progress.
This role is a key position on the small GitHub policy team, working across jurisdictions and addressing issues relevant to developers worldwide. It presents a unique opportunity to create a wide-ranging impact while leveraging deep subject matter expertise and the networks the candidate brings.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the formation and execution of GitHub’s policy agenda, advocating for policies that support open-source innovation and the global developer community.
- Collaborate across GitHub and with external stakeholders to implement strategic initiatives, providing essential materials and insights to advance GitHub’s policy objectives.
- Build relationships with government policymakers, industry influencers, and academic partners, positioning them as advocates for GitHub’s priorities and strengthening GitHub’s impact in the policy space.
- Share expertise with internal teams, providing guidance on public policy and legislative trends that affect product development and business strategy.
- Gather and synthesize insights to support the creation of position papers, policy briefings, and other advocacy materials, helping GitHub address emerging regulatory challenges.
- Coordinate events, social media engagements, and press opportunities, contributing to GitHub’s public voice on policy affecting the open-source community.
- Build and maintain internal alignment on policy priorities, coordinating across departments to achieve shared objectives in dynamic and complex political and policy environments.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated impact in technology policy roles, with examples of effective contributions to advocacy efforts or policy initiatives in areas such as open-source software, cybersecurity, or artificial intelligence.
- Proficiency in analyzing policy issues, with a strong understanding of regulatory processes and the strategic application of policy insights to support product and business goals.
- Ability to translate complex technical and policy concepts effectively for diverse audiences, including engineers, non-technical stakeholders, and policymakers.

- Proactive and adaptable problem-solver, capable of navigating shifting policy landscapes and emerging issues.
- Collaborative, team-oriented mindset with excellent interpersonal skills for relationship-building in a fast-paced, distributed work environment.
- Passionate about technology policy, with the ability to analyze, interpret, and contribute to policy discussions and documentation that advance GitHub’s priorities.
- Demonstrated experience with programming, open source communities, data science, artificial intelligence, or developer tools like GitHub to enhance productivity or explore new capabilities—professionally or for fun!
