As a Senior PHP Engineer, you will be joining our small but experienced team running the Backend of Vitals. You will be building e-commerce apps with the latest versions of PHP & Symfony, used by more than 150 million people worldwide every month.

About The Role

We value pragmatism and prefer opinionated solutions that help us focus on the product, not the code.

The Vitals backend runs on AWS and is built using Symfony 6, PHP 8, and MySQL. We use Doctrine and API Platform to make development smoother, and you can expect a well-organized codebase with up-to-date tools. You will need to be experienced with these technologies to succeed in your role.

• You’ll be responsible for keeping the code quality high by introducing best practices, doing code reviews, continuously evolving coding standards, and developing a testing strategy.
• You will greatly impact shaping projects with Product Managers and Designers, drawing the outline of future initiatives, and anticipating roadblocks.
• Last, you’ll take ownership of developer experience and, with the backend team, continuously remove bottlenecks to ship improvements.

Your Profile

• You’re experienced in PHP, creating reliable APIs that scale. Experience with Symfony is a big plus.
• You write efficient SQL queries and can identify bottlenecks.
• You know your way around AWS, including EC2, Elastic Beanstalk, and Aurora.
• You’re proud of taking ownership of the services you create, testing, running, and monitoring them.
• You write production-level code based on SOLID principles.
• Thinking in tradeoffs comes naturally to you. You know there’s no right & wrong.
• You love doing code reviews and coaching people.
• You’re continuously looking for ways of improving the developer experience and delivery speed.
• Bonus points if you are familiar with: API Platform, AWS Lambda, and AWS SQS.
