About the role

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Project Officer – Policy will lead CATSINaM’s policy and advocacy efforts, coordinate critical projects, and engage with stakeholders to deliver meaningful outcomes. This role also contributes to strengthening systems and resources to enhance the organisation’s impact.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage and deliver CATSINaM’s policy and advocacy program, aligning with organisational goals and research priorities.
  • Identify policy risks and provide expert advice to leadership on risk management strategies.
  • Provide operational updates and recommendations to the CEO and COO.
  • Oversee day-to-day activities and professional development of policy and advocacy staff.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including advisory groups and CATSINaM members.
  • Gather and analyse data on membership satisfaction to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure timely and effective communication to keep stakeholders informed.
  • Develop tools, templates, and resources to strengthen CATSINaM’s advocacy processes.
  • Stay informed on emerging public policy trends and social changes affecting members.
  • Drive internal knowledge sharing to improve the delivery of organisational outcomes.

Key skills, experience and attributes

  • Tertiary qualifications in Research, Public Policy, Project Management, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in policy creation, corporate governance, and project coordination.
  • Demonstrated experience engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Strong understanding of issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and stakeholder needs.
  • Proven ability to monitor project progress, evaluate outcomes, and identify areas for improvement.
  • A proactive, curious, and detail-oriented approach to problem-solving.
  • Experience with quality assurance accreditation (ISO9001) highly regarded.
  • Willingness to travel as required (valid driver’s license essential)
