Job Summary:

The Senior API Software Engineer designs, develops, maintains, and troubleshoots software in association with the Operations API system. This position works with other team members to ensure requirements amongst subsystems are met, interface controls are adhered to and departmental deadlines and objectives are achieved.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Develop Python-based RESTful APIs using the OpenAPI specification.
• Develop Python-based tools for converting data of varying formats for use in API
• Design and develop internal web portals for configuring and monitoring API status.
• Develop and maintain frameworks for building, unit testing and deployment of pertinent subsystems.
• Work with relational database schema definition and query design/optimization.
• Write specifications and requirements defining application functions, features, and goals.
• Maintain preexisting end user software and applications.
• Proactively troubleshoot/debug/resolve application and performance issues.
• Work within the established Globalstar Agile/Scrum development methodology using Atlassian products.
• Independently research architectural software issues and recommend solutions.

Skills and Competencies:

• Strong knowledge of Python and Python development tools
• Familiarity with AWS components and services
• Familiarity with CI/CD frameworks such as GIT, Bitbucket, and Jenkins
• Familiarity with REST API tools (Swagger, etc)
• Good working knowledge of RDBs (Oracle, MySQL and associated tools)
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to interact clearly and concisely with all departments and levels of management
• Excellent organizational skills with attention-to-detail
• Ability to meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to effectively manage time and prioritize tasks
• Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
• Strong problem-solving skills

• Ability to explore new languages, skills, techniques, and platforms
• Exhibits an excellent understanding of computer science fundamentals

Education, Experience, and Licenses/Certifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (hard science required)
• 5 to 7 years of experience as a Software Developer
• 5 to 7 years of experience in Telecom
• 5 to 7 years of experience working with the following:
  • Python/Shell/Java
  • Relational Databases
  • Web portal development
  • Linux operating system
  • GIT, BitBucket tools

• Willingness and ability to travel as needed
• Willingness and ability to work after regularly scheduled hours as needed
• Ability to sit at a desk for prolonged periods working on a computer (4 to 8 hours)
