All Visual Designer qualifications:
The ideal Senior Visual Designer is a creative problem-solver who is flexible, organized, and detail-oriented. This position requires a working understanding of (and willingness to grow in) production design, digital design (including web and UI/UX), corporate identity, marketing/advertising, and product design as we serve clients in a myriad of diverse industries. Print and packaging experience is a plus. Senior Visual Designers should have strong graphic design and layout skills, with an understanding of industry standard communication design principles.
- Proficiency in the standard tools is required: Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Figma and Sketch, Google Suite, Keynote and PPT
- Proficiency in basic video editing and animation using After Effects is required, with an expectation to be willing to continue to grow in understanding of these tools
- Due to the nature of our direct relationships with clients, an ability to clearly present design ideas, concepts and projects as well as take design instruction and criticism is essential
- Senior Visual Designers will have effective time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines (with the support of project managers and creative leadership).
- A strong understanding of social media and other digital social platforms
- Excellent oral and written English communication skills; strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to speak/hear clearly in video conference (zoom/Google meet)
- Available to work 9-5pm M-F in the assigned time zone
- Education – Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, preferably in Art, Graphic Design, or related field
- Experience – Worked at agency or in-house department at the visual/graphic designer level
- A design portfolio is required for consideration
Additionally:
- A Senior Visual Designer must have the ability to manage ambiguity, work autonomously, and multi-task in an agile environment
- A meticulous eye and attention to detail
- An outstanding portfolio and demonstrated track record that reveals thought processes and an ability to rapidly generate creative ideas
- Refined sense of color, scale, harmony, balance and use of negative space
- Deep experience of user-centered design principles and methodologies
- Ability to proof/QC work
- Excellent soft skills, ability to take point on client rotations and should be a candidate for pod lead duties
- Rarely needs QC edits
- Self-motivated and seeks to solve problems independently
- Chooses a skill to specialize more deeply in (animation, illustration, or UI/UX)
- Is a trusted and experienced member of the team
- Willing to teach other team members and goes above and beyond to support other designers
- Takes ownership of maintaining excellent client relationships
Responsibilities
- Develop effective, on-brand, and on-strategy creative including (but not limited to): concepts, sketches, storyboards, wireframes, final digital assets (i.e. landing pages, banners, graphics, packaging renders, resized assets, social media graphics, banner ads, illustrations, simple animations/gifs) etc. and delight our clients by delivering consistently high quality design. Additionally, ensure all designers on a client rotation uphold that same standard.
- Work in small, remote, client-directed design teams and keep Designerds leadership well informed of rotation happenings.
- Conduct oneself in a professional manner, represent Designerds well, and take responsibility for ensuring client happiness while on rotation, including proactively looking for ways to uplevel their experience
- Communicate directly with client teams and Designerds coworkers in a clear, professional and timely manner via Slack, email and video conferencing
- Work independently as well as part of a team to complete daily design requests, support other rotation designers as able/needed
- Create detailed documentation of client design specifications
- Be open to assuming pod lead responsibilities (primary point of client contact, starting a new client rotation alongside an ACD, onboarding designers onto a rotation, hosting 30/30s and caring well for other visual designers)
- Work closely with pod lead, manager, and other team members to service client needs, drive growth, innovation and company culture
- Be comfortable with evolving work environments, reallocations of client designations and shifting priorities
- Be committed to growing in one’s craft and refining skillsets, as well as be willing to learn new tools and abilities as needed
