The Role & the Team

The Technology team at Shippit make an impact and create the future of Shippit, From deploying to new geographies to building next generation products, and taking the microservices journey, there’s no better time to join a vibrating team already strong of several world class software engineers.

As a Staff Software Engineer , you will lead the development of product features through all phases of the software lifecycle, collaborating closely with Product Managers, designers, and engineers.

You will also take ownership of features from concept to delivery, ensuring alignment with business goals and maintaining high standards of code quality. This includes mentoring team members, guiding small teams, and proactively addressing challenges to deliver reliable, scalable solutions.

Day to Day

• Lead projects and initiatives with a clear vision and strategy
• Act as the go-to expert in key areas, offering guidance and driving impactful decisions across teams and the organisation.
• Can provide material feedback on the work of junior and senior developers.
• Deep expertise within at least one or two programming environments.
• Solid experience in multiple technologies and proficiency in at least two areas.
• Understands the technical and business larger picture around their work, seeks clarifications from product managers and is able to negotiate trade-offs and alternative options based on planning and existing code bases constraints.
• Proactively suggests and applies corrective actions on the existing code bases.
• Can build a strategy to build and maintain quality in your area of ownership.
• Own initiatives from design to deployment and support, with planning awareness.

Participate and contribute to the team’s life, attend learning events and propose topics of interest.

Our Ideal Candidate

• Usually, at least 8 years of demonstrated ability being a professional programmer in several technical disciplines with deep knowledge of multiple technologies and a proficiency in at least one area, within Ruby, Javascript/TypeScript/Node.js, Go, Java, Kotlin.
• Proven ability to lead cross-team collaboration and translate technical solutions into measurable business outcomes.
• Ability to mentor and train other developers on the team, including seniors.
• Excellent problem solving skills and ability to breakdown business requirements into technical tasks.
• Experience with Object-Oriented-Programming
  
• Ability to effectively bridge communication between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Proactive and self-motivated.
  
• Good communication skills.
• Eager to learn from and share knowledge with others.
• Enjoys analysing sophisticated problems to find simple solutions.
