About This Role:

We are looking for a skilled Sr. Software Engineer, DBA who also has experience with DevOps practices. This role will focus on managing and optimizing our Aurora MySQL and Redis databases, ensuring high performance, security, and availability. You’ll support database architecture, help automate management tasks, and work closely with the development team to provide database design and optimization insights.


Core Responsibilities:

  • Database Architecture and Maintenance:
    • Design, deploy, and manage database architecture, including clusters, replica sets, and sharding for scalability and resilience.
    • Oversee the operation and maintenance of MySQL and Redis databases, ensuring high availability and fault tolerance.
    • Manage AWS RDS, Aurora MySQL, and Redis for all environments.
    • Design and maintain high-availability setups, leveraging AWS-managed configurations.
    • Use Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, PagerDuty, and EventBridge for database monitoring and alerts.
  • Performance Monitoring and Optimization:
    • Monitor database performance, handle alerts, identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and failures.
    • Review and address daily alerts
    • Test Redis compatibility and optimize performance across versions and systems.
  • Development Collaboration:
    • Work closely with the development team, offering design and optimization recommendations for database structures on new projects.
    • Provide insights on best practices and maintain alignment with application requirements.
  • Automation and Scripting:
    • Develop automation scripts and tools to streamline database management, backup, and recovery tasks.
  • Troubleshooting and Emergency Support:
    • Investigate and resolve database-related issues, provide emergency support, and collaborate with AWS support for escalations as needed.
  • Continuous Learning and Optimization:
    • Stay current with the latest developments and best practices in MySQL and Redis, continuously refining and optimizing database performance.
  • DevOps Responsibilities:
    • Implement DevOps best practices within the database environment, focusing on seamless integration with infrastructure.
    • Collaborate with DevOps, infrastructure, Security, and other cross-functional teams

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • 8+ years of experience (5+ with Masters degree) managing Redis & MySQL databases, with skills in Redis cluster management, performance tuning, and fault recovery.
  • Practical and proven experience with AWS, Linux, Python, and database monitoring tools like CloudWatch and Prometheus.
  • Strong teamwork skills with a proactive approach to solving technical challenges.
  • This role is ideal for someone who’s experienced in both database management and DevOps practices, ready to support our high-demand environment with an emphasis on security, efficiency, and scalability.


Salary:

The starting pay for this role is USD$175,000 for all U.S. remote locations. The actual base pay will vary, and is dependent upon many factors, such as transferable skill sets, work experience, business needs, and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change.
