This role is ideal for an Environmental Planner with a strong ability to communicate ecological concepts effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Lead the Development Approval Services team in delivering strategic ecological and environmental planning services to support client approval processes under the Planning Act 2016 (Qld). It is expected that the successful candidate will be an independent technical decision maker in this respect.
  • Team Management: Assign and delegate project work to maximise team utilisation, foster professional development, and oversee the achievement of designated KPIs (team revenue and financial targets, team productivity and project management targets).
  • Key Client Management: Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with new and existing clients, ensuring client satisfaction and repeat business.
  • Client-Focused Delivery: Oversee the preparation and delivery of site-based due diligence advice, ecological assessment reports, responses to information requests, and post-approval condition compliance.
  • Business Development: Identify and pursue new business opportunities, including new services, clients, and industries. Develop and execute strategies to grow the company’s service offerings and market presence.
  • Environmental Planning and Ecological Communication: Utilise your expertise in environmental planning to communicate ecological concepts clearly and effectively to clients, stakeholders (internal and external), and regulators. Ensure complex, ecologically focused planning processes are presented in an easy-to-understand manner, driving accurate understanding and actionable outcomes.
  • Project Management: Drive the successful pursuit and delivery of projects, ensuring they meet client expectations for cost, time, and quality.
  • Team Culture: Provide mentorship and support to team members to ensure their professional and personal well-being.
  • Collaboration: Coordinate with other team leaders to ensure equitable access to shared business services and resources.
  • Strategic Vision: Work closely with the Senior Leadership Group (Directors and Operations Manager) to align team objectives with company goals, with a future opportunity to join the senior leadership team.

About You:

  • Experience: At least 10 years of experience as an Environmental Planner, with demonstrated success in managing teams and delivering complex projects. Strong knowledge of the Planning Act 2016 (Qld) and State Development Assessment Provisions (SDAP) is essential.
  • Ecological Comprehension: A proven ability to understand and communicate ecological concepts simply and effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Leadership: A record of strong, steady leadership, with the ability to mentor and inspire teams.
  • Technical Skills: Expertise in ecological assessments, environmental reporting, and navigating approval processes.
  • Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to engage with clients, regulators, and stakeholders.
  • Collaboration: A team player with a proactive approach to inter-departmental coordination.

What We Offer:

  • A supportive, flexible and dynamic work environment.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and career advancement.
  • Opportunities to participate in business development, industry advocacy and industry associations.
  • A chance to make a tangible impact on environmental planning and sustainability.
  • Opportunities to work on numerous 2032 Brisbane Olympic Projects, influencing design outcomes and legacy in the region.
