Summary

This position arranges for the translation of materials involving a variety of languages and a wide variety of formats (including oral interpretation, for example). The Translations Project Coordinator works with a variety of clients and vendors to ensure that accurate translations occur. Translations Project Coordinators also participate actively in the Translations Group – a Board-mandated team established to consider translation issues and to propose standards and policies.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Administers workflow.

  • Prepares jobs for translation to send to vendors (freelance translators, reviewers, proofreaders, agencies), tracks and monitors their progress through to completion.
  • Formats translations to be published per client request, whenever possible.
  • Proofs final copy per client request and enters final payment.
  • Helps regularly evaluate workflow processes and their effectiveness, and suggests adjustments as needed.

Interacts with client departments.

  • Involves OLS in translation and interpreting jobs from preliminary planning stages.
  • Serves as liaison with clients, including consulting on how to best prepare and process each job and educating clients as to the nature of the translation work and cost/time options involved.
  • Works to resolve translation and other issues between clients and translators, especially navigating correct translation of Christian Science concepts.
  • Helps all departments of the organization to build consensus in finding the best terminology pertaining to TMC and CSPS.
  • Prepares estimates at clients’ request to meet their particular needs.
  • Participates in and helps plan meetings to develop multilingual projects.

Interacts with vendors.

  • Works with translators, reviewers, proofreaders, interpreters, outside agencies.
  • Researches terminology to find the best options to use for TMC and CSPS.
  • Negotiates and resolves issues that arise during the translation process.

Translations Group Member of the multi-departmental Translations Group (TG). (Department members not serving as the Translations Group Coordinator serve as Group members.) Member contributes to work on translation issues from inception to completion. Tasks include:

  • Participation in each meeting of the TG, and contribution in creating the agenda.
  • Research and policy development: Researches translations issues, prepares background documents, and monitors policy development

Shared OLS Responsibilities

  • Participates in setting the tone and shares responsibility for problem-solving, implementing vision for team, maintaining clarity of objectives, and establishing translation procedures.
  • Assists in preparing bi-weekly reports to Accounting for vendor payments.
  • Keeps abreast of changes in translation industry, including attending annual professional meetings, international summits and events and educational webinars or classes.
  • Offers language support in Salesforce Marketing Cloud, 123Formbuilder, InCopy

Regular Contacts

This position has regular contact with OLS translators and employees in many CSPS and TMC departments, vendors, and the language fields.

Job Requirements

Education/Experience

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree, or its foreign equivalent, in language studies, linguistics, or translation studies or relevant specialized studies and/or experience in these fields. A Master’s degree is preferred. Fluency in one or more non-English languages is required – Spanish required. Three years of professional experience in coordinating and project management or in translating is preferred. Previous TMC/CSPS work experience a plus. Membership in the American Translators Association strongly encouraged.

Knowledge/Skills

Position calls for demonstrated degree of flexibility, adaptability, tact, diplomacy, exceptional confidentiality, attention to detail, ability to work independently as well as part of a team, and ability to follow projects through to completion. Project Coordinator must be customer-service oriented, able to prioritize projects with multiple deadlines, and have proven skills in creative problem solving.

Technology Skills

Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Adobe Acrobat, Gmail, Google docs and Internet skills are required. The ability to work with Macintosh systems, Asana and InCopy software is preferred. Strong aptitude for learning new software is required.

Work Environment

Remote work is a possibility. Must be able to travel to Boston when requested.

Engagement with Christian Science

Membership in The Mother Church and Primary Class instruction, and a thorough knowledge of Christian Science terminology and metaphysics are required. Past/present branch church experience is strongly encouraged.
