Role Overview
In the capacity of a Traveling Superintendent II, you will oversee field construction operations and teams, ensuring that projects adhere to budgetary constraints, timelines, quality standards, and safety regulations. You will utilize your comprehensive understanding of construction methodologies, tools, materials, building codes, and OSHA guidelines to provide exceptional oversight on various assignments. Candidates with ground-up construction experience, particularly in petroleum or gas station projects, are encouraged to apply.
Although candidates will ideally be located in the St. Louis metro area, a willingness to travel across the nation for project needs is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct on-site construction operations and ensure alignment with project specifications and timelines in collaboration with project managers and owners’ representatives.
- Proactively communicate any potential conflicts or issues with your team.
- Review project submittals and assist in negotiations related to claims and change orders, as well as submitting Requests for Information (RFIs) to the project manager.
- Evaluate equipment requirements and supervise maintenance and proper usage on job sites.
- Maintain a safe, organized job site and ensure the protection of tools and materials.
- Cultivate strong communication with subcontractors to guarantee the timely provision of labor and materials.
- Implement safety protocols and conduct weekly safety meetings to ensure adherence by all site personnel.
- Contribute to safety assessments and assist in incident investigations as required.
- Prepare daily job reports that include progress updates, safety concerns, and other critical metrics for office review.
- Manage project close-out procedures and ensure efficient completion of punch lists.
- Mentor and support Project Engineers, Foremen, and Carpenters involved in your projects.
- Be prepared for physical tasks on site, which may involve lifting up to 50 lbs and handling heavier materials as necessary.
Required Skills
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints.
- OSHA 30 certification is mandatory.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial ground-up construction.
- Strong understanding of Divisions 1-16 of construction specifications.
- Experience in fuel, petroleum, or restaurant construction is highly valued.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED; additional certifications are advantageous.
- Residency in the St. Louis metro area or surrounding regions is preferred.
- Openness to nationwide travel once local projects are completed is essential.
