- TÜV SÜD has a strong capability and record for offering TIC services to the wind sector globally, services including project certification, owners engineer, technical due diligence, and inspection both on and offshore. Wind development in the UK is currently in a phase of significant expansion. We have started expanding our Northern European team covering, and we are now looking for candidates that have offshore wind engineering or project management experience in UK or Denmark.
- We are looking to recruit a Wind Turbine Site Assessment and Loads Specialist who will deliver technical specialist analysis in the area of site assessment, load simulation and measurement of loads for wind turbines. It would also be advantageous if the successful candidate can support as mechanical and structural specialist in review of design documentation and inspection. The role can be based from a TÜV SÜD UK office or remotely from home.
- Key responsibilities include:
- Helping to establish the overall deliverables for the project, including time, cost, tools and relevant standards.
- Providing technical guidance and support throughout the planning, construction, commissioning, and operation phases of wind projects.
- Carrying out design review according to agreed deadlines.
- Maintaining technical procedures and templates.
- Supporting business development activities as needed to help ensure a pipeline of work for the team.
- Assisting in the preparation of pre-qualification questionnaires, proposals and bids.
- Ensuring all activities are completed safely and with compliance to all prevailing safety systems of both TUV SUD and clients, including the conducting of job specific risk assessments.
Qualifications- Essential criteria:
- Masters degree in engineering, renewable energy or related field.
- Excellent knowledge and experience of prevailing tools, codes, rules, standards and regulations relevant to the site assessment, loads, mechanical, structural and control aspects of wind energy.
- Strong problem-solving skills and be able to find creative solutions to challenges that arise during the project.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to interface with both internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
- Competent user of site assessment software for wind conditions (WAsP, WindPro or similar.
- Competent user of the IEC 61400-1 standard and aeroelastic simulation software (Bladed, HAWC2, Fast or similar).
- Competence in data-analytics (Matlab, Python or similar).
- Competent in the use of standard IT equipment and software, including the Microsoft Office suite of application (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Confidence, pragmatism and good communication and assertiveness skills as well as service-oriented work.
- Desirable criteria:
- General mechanical and structural engineering skills in steel design, composite materials, rotating machinery, aerodynamics, hydrodynamics and geotechnical design.
- Experience with Metocean assessment.
- Confidence with wave simulation and load analysis at different levels of fidelity (Morison equation, Boussinesq approximation, OrcaFlex and similar).
- Experience with measurements and tests according to ISO/IEC 17025.
- Experience with type- and project-certification of wind turbines according to IECRE.
- Member of and/or chartered with, relevant engineering body.
