Full-stack WordPress Engineer (100% Remote)
About the company
Fynd is working with a heavy hitting globally recognized digital solutions agency specializing in WordPress publishing for mid-sized to enterprise media businesses. They focus on simplifying complex digital challenges, helping clients build, operate, and monetize publishing platforms with tailored solutions that prioritize functionality and business goals.
They provide seamless collaboration and personalized service, valuing relationships as much as technical expertise.
Building beautifully designed, neat but complex digital solutions that attracts multi-million monthly visitors is just another day in the office for this team – and with new projects pouring in off the back of accolades of historical work, the team are looking for another solid Senior WordPress Developer to help continue delivering the quality and standard they’ve set and are known for.
About the role
As a Full Stack WordPress Engineer you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to a wide variety of projects in various capacities, from working autonomously on new features or maintenance for their existing clients or as an integral part of the project teams bringing enterprise-level projects to life for some of Australia’s (and the world’s) most recognisable brands.
As such, Full Stack Engineers are expected to be able to work both autonomously (with direction from their project manager) or as part of a larger team while reporting to the project’s tech lead while taking part in agile ceremonies such as daily standups, sprint planning and sprint showcases.
About you
We’re looking for someone with 3+ years of experience as a WordPress developer while practising both object oriented PHP (ideally utilising an MVC approach) and ES6 Javascript and React (as it pertains to Gutenberg).
You will have a thorough understanding of the WordPress request lifecycle and be equally comfortable working on backend tasks such as data migrations, custom plugin development and the REST API as implementing front-end build tools, extending and creating Gutenberg blocks and utilising CSS frameworks like Tailwind.
Ideally you’ll have experience within agency or product development teams within an agile environment and are accustomed to relevant tools such as Jira and Confluence from a project management perspective and GitHub/BitBucket ecosystems including code reviews, pull/merge requests, actions and deployment/pipeline systems.
Responsibilities include
- Ownership of building and implementing new features and functionality on client WordPress sites.
- Ongoing maintenance of client WordPress sites including bug fixing, plugin updates, core updates, performance optimisation etc.
- Ensuring high performance, availability and quality of all work produced.
- Accurate estimation of the level of effort of development tasks.
- Maintaining clear, honest and open communication with the TCC internal team and clients/stakeholders.
- Following all processes/procedures, such as time tracking, Jira ticket updates, HR processes etc.
- Have an understanding/awareness of technical best practices and be making a concerted effort to put them into practice on a daily basis.
- Uses time responsibly, escalating issues to senior/lead team members where necessary.
- Excellent communication skills and experience interacting with clients, English must be your first/primary language or at least a C2 level of proficiency.
- Must be within 2 hours of GMT+10/AEST.
- Self-motivated, able to work independently on retainer projects and also as part of a team on new projects when required.
Technical/Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years experience working in a full stack capacity specifically with WordPress.
- Demonstrated experience in WordPress plugin and block development for which you’re able to provide examples.
- 3-5+ years of general PHP/JS experience, including understanding of MVC/object oriented design principles and experience with frameworks such as Laravel & React.
- Ideally, you use Tailwind as your CSS framework of choice or at least have experience using it in the past.
- Understanding of performance optimisation for both front and backend, demonstrated ability in Pagespeed optimisation, identifying and resolving bottlenecks in application code and at least a basic understanding of optimising database structure/queries.
- Have worked with at least one large scale WordPress project, either in terms of traffic, budget or complexity.
- Experience with GitHub/BitBucket/GitLab, including deployments/pipelines.
Nice-to-haves
- Actively contributing to open source projects.
- Experience with enterprise web hosting companies such as WordPress VIP and WPEngine.
- Multilingual experience, including plugins such as WPML, TranslatePress & Polyglot.
- Familiar with Atlassian suite of products, such as Jira.
What to love
- 100% remote opportunity – can be based anywhere within Australia (within 2 hours of GMT+10/AEST)
- Design and build Enterprise-grade WordPress websites for well-known Tier-1 global brands
- Work with cutting edge technology that will be used by 1M+ visitors monthly
