On a hike through the Costa Rican jungle, I found myself slipping in the loamy and drenched earth and loosing my footing on a steep incline. My travel partner suggested I remove my shoes and go barefoot. The jungle floor teamed with crawlers of all sizes and fertile layers from the canopied, swinging critters. I traveled to Costa Rica to experience the jungle, not to just look at it from a distance. I reluctantly removed my shoes and hiked barefoot for another three miles, ankle deep in a textured mud of indiscernible content. I'd never felt so untethered, so connected to the earth, so out of my comfort zone and ready to say yes to life.
