The role of an Engineering Director of Community at CanonicalAs the Engineering Director of Community you will have a broad impactand responsibility for growing community engagement and processes acrossall of engineering. If you want to define what building the next generationof open source community looks like, this is the role for you.You will be responsible for assisting various teams at Canonical inbroadening their community engagement activities. You will ensure that allengineering teams make community an important aspect of how they do whatthey do. You’ll provide assistance to new and existing contributorsseeking to get involved or expand their role, and connect communitycontributors with mentors. You will organise cross-team participation incommunity events and mentoring.Outside of those responsibilities you will assist the Ubuntu communityteam in ensuring community processes are high quality and consistentlyimplemented.Location: This is a Globally remote role.What your day will look likeCollaborate proactively with multiple distributed teamsHelp engineering teams establish and achieve community engagementgoalsEstablish consistency in community process, engagement, and interactionacross engineeringInfluence others and represent technical insight to customers and otherengineersSpend a significant amount of time mentoring others and providingcross-team inputWork from home with global travel 4 to 6 weeks for internal andexternal eventsCollaborate with the developer advocates and PR teams at Canonical topromote Ubuntu and related technologies via blogs and social mediaIdentifying relevant influencers and devising plans on how toeffectively engage with themWhat we are looking for in youYou have a long history and clear public record of communityengagement, particularly with open source communitiesYou are capable of representing Canonical / Ubuntu externallyYou have experience leading successful projects and teamsYou are an articulate communicatorYou are comfortable preparing and giving presentationsYou love technology and working with brilliant peopleYou follow industry trends and new technologiesYou understand and value how you do what you do, as well as what youdoYou have strong collaboration and influencing skillsYou are curious, flexible, articulate, and accountableYou value soft skills and are passionate, enterprising, thoughtful, andself-motivatedBS/BA or equivalent in Computer Science, Technical Communication,English, or a related fieldWhat we offer youYour base pay will depend on various factors including your geographicallocation, level of experience, knowledge and skills.
